What Every Campground and RV Park Needs to Know About Marketing [TripAdvisor - Webinar Wrap-up]




Our outdoor hospitality specialist, Deb Kohls, organized a webinar on September 16th specifically for our Campground and RV park users.

TripAdvisor is the largest traveler website in the world. It’s consequently crucial for outdoor lodging providers to know how they can increase revenue working with TripAdvisor and get the most out of their collaboration with the review website.

We are pleased to summarize what was said for those who missed the session.
The webinar started with an interesting question asked to the audience:

Is your business listed on TripAdvisor?

The result was 50-50. Please feel free to ask yourself the question and to share your replies with us. We would be very curious to know if this result will change after receiving your answers!

Then the speakers addressed the topic of reviews and how to maximize your visibility with TripAdvisor.

Some key numbers:

- If a property increases its review score by one point on a five-point scale on OTA channels, it can increase prices by 11.2% while maintaining the same occupancy rate.
- TripAdvisor has 260 million unique visitors per month.

- Every minute 100 new reviews are written on the website.
- 53% of travelers say they will not book a property with no reviews.

Research shows that the reviews directly impact your bottom line and shows how important it is to take control of your reputation on TripAdvisor.

Mark McCullough explained the benefits the website provides to campgrounds and RV parks:

- Management Center
It enables the property to take control of its listing, to upload photos and to respond to the travelers’ reviews.

- Review Express
It allows you to automatically send an email to your guest after their stay to encourage them to write reviews.

- Business Listing
Upgrading the existing profile enables the campground or RV park to add its contact details (website, email, phone number), special offers & announcements and the virtual tour. They can also benefit from the mobile site and app exposure.

Besides, TripAdvisor sends emails twice a week to 60 million members. If a member researches, for instance, an RV park in Virginia, 48 hours later this traveler will receive an email featuring properties in Virginia with special offers, local attractions, and festivals. This provides additional exposure. Lastly, the Property Dashboard offers benchmark features and reports telling you for example where travelers come from.

- TripConnect
The greatest TripConnect’s advantage is that travelers are driven to the booking pathway.

While reading your reviews, the client can search for availability and rates as shown in this example:


In order to use TripConnect, the property needs to work with a certified Internet booking engine. Frontdesk Anywhere’s booking engine is certified by TripAdvisor. When an RV park or campground uses our booking engine, it can be integrated to TripConnect.

Jayne L. Cohen provided extra information on review management. Nowadays if a consumer needs to buy a product, whatever it is, she/he will read reviews before purchasing.

The buying decision occurs while reading a review website as consumers trust more reviews than advertisement.

It’s consequently important for a lodging provider to keep the reviews current and to demonstrate his commitment responding to them. It’s also an efficient way to listen to the guests and to learn a lot from them to create better experiences, improve guest satisfaction and drive more revenue.

Here’s a short recap of what campgrounds and RV parks can do on TripAdvisor website:

- Basic Listing: travelers can read the reviews written by the travel community, but they can’t contact you.
- Business Listing: travelers can read the reviews and they can contact you.
- Business Listing and TripConnect: the extra benefit is that the travelers can make a reservation.
