There’s no doubting Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) like Expedia and are a great way of bringing traffic to your website. They promote your property to a global audience you would never reach otherwise. They're like an online billboard for your property and are often a great source of additional revenues, but they shouldn't always outperform your direct bookings.

Your hotel website and booking engine are where you have the greatest control over your property's image, rates, margins and other essential factors that make an impression on potential guests.

Payne Mansion increases its Direct Bookings by 25%

The Payne Mansion was recently refurbished and is the creation of Curlett & Cuthbertson. One of few buildings to survive the great fire of 1906, it's registered with the California Historical Society. The result is astonishing: full of charm and Victorian character.  

While the Payne Mansion has gone through several phases of major renovations to bring modern day technology and comfort, it is still a showcase of classic Victorian-era architecture and exquisite craftsmanship, retaining all of its original design, charm and beauty. Thanks to its proximity to San Francisco's major sights like Fishermans Wharf and Chinatown, it's a favourite for all types of travellers and regularly hosts weddings and events.

[Wrap-Up] The Independent Hotel Academy - Florida sessions

In August, we held the first sessions of our Independent Hotel Academy with three best of breed partners: Revinate, Duetto & TripTease.

It was an exciting opportunity to learn both from experts in online reputation, revenue management, channel and online distribution, and general hotel management, but also from independent hoteliers’ unique experiences and visions.
We’d like to thank all the participants who made the events a success, and convinced us we should host more educational seminars in the States and beyond.

The distribution landscape for hotels is changing and becoming more complex with each passing day. In January of 2015, Expedia purchased Travelocity and agreed to purchase Orbitz Worldwide the previous month. Not to be outdone by Expedia, another OTA giant The Priceline Group countered with its acquisition of Rocketmiles in February.

According to Criteo's travel flash report, during the first six months of 2014, a staggering 40% of American travelers booked their reservations on mobile devices, which was a 20% increase over the previous year's numbers.
