Why Campgrounds Should Embrace the OTA

Find me on:

Campground and RV Park owners should take note! As outdoor hospitality suppliers, the trend has been moving to diversify revenue streams by adding various forms of lodging accommodation with cabins, cottages, yurts, and yes, even teepees! While amenities can be as luxurious as 5-star hotels suites or as basic as overnight hotels, it is obvious that a new type of consumer is looking to experience the outdoor lifestyle.

Although we’re appealing to a different vacationer, it seems that we continue to use the same marketing methods and channels to expand the business. With the growing trend, it is even more important that outdoor hospitality is visible in travel marketing and advertising sites where the consumer can be given the option to ‘try’ the lifestyle.

And this is why campgrounds should connect to the OTA (online travel agents). From the beginning of the Internet boom, travel has been a leader in connecting consumers to suppliers. Yet campgrounds and RV Parks have rarely taken advantage of the opportunity to connect their inventory and supply to the popular websites such as Travelocity, Expedia, Booking.com and hundreds more .

Perhaps it’s never been easy . . . or maybe it’s just not been clear on how to connect. Whatever the reason, it is important to the business to wisely invest in marketing opportunities that will increase revenues and promote your brand.

Whether you are an independent, public or private, or ‘flag’ branded property, it is a smart decision to embrace the OTAs.

Not only does listing and connecting your inventory make sense, it is an opportunity to advance the industry and connect to consumers who may not have otherwise considered the freedom of the outdoor lifestyle!

If you’ve not yet explored the benefits of connecting to Expedia, Travelocity, Booking.com and others, here are few considerations . . . .

  • Increased brand visibility to a greater audience
  • Reduced time to promote your property on your own to a new audience
  • Connecting at the right time to the right buyer
  • New revenue source with higher return

Don’t let the summer get here without asking your reservation provider how you can expand market exposure and connect your business with the leading online travel agents (OTAs) today!
